Surgical care at Brandýs nad Labem Hospital

Sling surgery as a day procedure

For suitable patients, TVT and TOT sling surgery can be performed at Brandýs nad Labem Hospital as a day procedure. You arrive at the hospital in the morning and, if everything goes smoothly, return home the same day.

Within this care, the initial examination, the recommendation of a specific procedure, the operation itself and the follow-up check-up are all carried out by Assoc. Prof. Otčenášek. He will discuss with you in advance why he recommends a particular method and what you can expect from it.

What happens on the day of surgery

Admission is in the morning, usually around seven o’clock. The hospital will confirm the exact time, along with instructions on fasting, medications and any tests you need. Your surgeon will see you before the procedure.

The sling surgery itself usually takes about twenty to thirty minutes. You then remain under observation for several hours. Staff monitor your general condition and whether you are able to urinate on your own after the procedure.

If all is well, you are usually discharged in the afternoon. You need someone to accompany you home. Neither the exact time nor same-day discharge can be guaranteed; a safe return home depends on your condition and how your recovery progresses.

The first weeks at home

At first, we recommend taking things easy. You usually don’t need to stay in bed all day, but it’s important to avoid significant exertion and lifting heavy objects. Return to lighter everyday activities gradually, following the recommendations you receive at discharge.

Intercourse usually needs to be avoided for about six weeks. Bathing and sport are also restricted for a period of time. You’ll receive specific instructions based on your procedure and healing; if in doubt, it’s better to ask in advance.

After anesthesia or sedation, also follow the recommendation to have an adult with you, and do not drive or drink alcohol for at least 24 hours.

Check-up after the procedure

Assoc. Prof. Otčenášek will assess your healing, urination and the result of the treatment. If needed, he will check the position of the sling by ultrasound and advise you on returning to work, sport and your intimate life.

If you can’t urinate or you have a fever, increasing pain or heavier bleeding, contact a medical facility without delay. If you experience shortness of breath, chest pain or fainting, seek emergency help.

Payment for care

For insured patients, medical procedures are covered by health insurance companies. At the hospital, you can book a single room (a premium service).
